Wise Monkey's contribution towards Salford's Millennium Waterfront
Celebrations is a new play written by four different writers. They
took the Bridgewater Canal as their theme and each picked a
different period in the canal's history to write about. We follow
generations of the same family through 200 years of history. From
the hard life on the canal in the 1790's we move on to the
celebrations of Queen Victoria's visit in 1851. The 1st World War
brings tragedy and the end of the canal looks certain in the
1960's……except one man has a vision. We will perform the play at
locations connected with the canal and the premiere is at Worsley
Old Hall, former home of the Duke of Bridgewater. This is a charity
performance that will be attended by the Lord Mayor of Salford and
proceeds from the event will be donated to the Mayor's
charity.
