This Lottery-award winning new play will form part of Salford's
Millennium celebrations. The play's title is from the Latin, 'Salix
Ford,' which is where the name Salford is supposedly derived. The
drama is a trilogy with each part linked by a narrator. The play
looks at the lives of immigrants who came to work in the
cosmopolitan Salford of the 1850's. We see a mining family - an
Irish immigrant - and a Welsh servant girl. Their traumas,
struggles, joys and achievements are dramatically portrayed and the
positive aspects of these early residents' contribution to present
day Salford are explored. The play will be touring to venues
throughout Salford during the celebrations, including Salford's
Millennium Marquee, museums, schools and halls.
